Rhipsalis Paradoxa ssp. Septentrionalis

Rhipsalis paradoxa ssp. septentrionalis is a Brazilian epiphytic cactus known as the Chain Cactus, producing long, trailing stems composed of narrow, three-lobed segments that twist and link together end to end in a continuous braided chain structure. The stems shift angles at each segment, creating the distinctive interlocking appearance that sets paradoxa apart from other Rhipsalis species. Young areoles along the stems carry fine, soft bristle-like hairs that give new growth a slightly fuzzy texture, wearing off as the segments mature. Stems are deep green, often developing a rich purple to reddish-purple flush across the surface when exposed to brighter light; a natural stress response that many growers actively encourage for the color effect. Small white flowers emerge along the stem edges on mature plants. Growth is pendulous and well suited to hanging baskets or high shelving.
